Abstract

Currently, the main effects introduced by power oscillations in the most used distance relays in the Electric Power System (SEP) of Cuba are not known. This work deals with the main characteristics of the power oscillations in the (SSEEPP) and its impact on the correct operation of the distance relays (21/21N ANSI Code) most used in the Cuban (SEP), for which we turn to the mathematical simulation. The main blocking and unblocking methods of protection relays (21/21N) are analysed. In the simulations it was confirmed that the oscillation blocking method is effective in all the analyzed technologies (Siemens, MICOM and NR distance relays) with the particularities of each manufacturer. On the other hand, it was observed that the unlocking methods of each of the relays have difficulties when a symmetrical short circuit occurs during a power oscillation.
