Abstract

When single-phase center tapped transformers are used in distribution networks to serve non-linear loads, they are usually loaded unequally between the ends of the secondary winding, causing a current to flow through the neutral with a high harmonic content and, that the currents that circulate through both halves of the secondary winding are different in amplitude and waveform. To determine more precisely the influence of harmonic distortion on losses, a model is proposed using average distortion loss factors. This model was validated using a scheme that combines linear and non-linear loads, for different loadability values of the transformer, obtaining that the difference between the calculated losses and those measured in the laboratory does not exceed 5% in any of the tests carried out. yielding a mean absolute error of 2,04 W.
