Estudio de los hábitos de consumo energético del sector residencial de La Habana
Study of energy consumption habits in the residential sector of Havana
Abstract
Energy consumption habits of residential customers in Havana were analyzed to identify patterns related to daily activities and electricity use. A survey was applied to 930 urban residential customers and statistical methods (frequency analysis, one-way ANOVA and cluster analysis) were used to examine the relationship between age, energy awareness, schedules and frequency of appliance use. Results revealed generational differences in consumption associated with cooking and watching television. 30% of respondents leave air conditioning on in unoccupied rooms, 21% turn on the television without watching it and 22% open the refrigerator unnecessarily. Cluster analysis classified users into three profiles: efficient (36.2%), careless (44.8%) and high-waste (19.0%). These findings show that technical factors, social routines and attitudes jointly influence consumption. This research provides an empirical basis for optimizing energy efficiency strategies and recommends age-segmented educational campaigns.
