Introduction of a biogas capture system in the landfill of the city of Portoviejo

Abstract

The objective of the work is to analyze the possible introduction of a biogas capture system in the sanitary landfill of the city of Portoviejo, in order to use it to generate electricity, so as to reduce the environmental impact and it is possible to provide energy to the electrical system of the territory. For the calculation of biogas production, the Mexican Biogas Model version 2.0 was used, developed by SCS Engineers under agreement with the Landfill Methane Outreach program (LMOP) of the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA). It is concluded that an investment aimed at achieving an environmentally adequate management of solid waste, which is deposited in the sanitary landfill of the city of Portoviejo, can be viable from the energetic, environmental, economic and socially useful point of view for the territory.
