Caracterización físico-química de la epoxidación de biodiesel obtenido a partir de grasa de pollo residual
Physico-chemical characterisation of the epoxidation of biodiesel from waste chicken fat
Abstract
The aim of the research is to epoxidise residual chicken fat and obtain a product that is more stable against oxidation, to be used in the formulation of lubricating grease. Methodologically, the study was carried out in two experimental stages. In the first stage, the transesterification reaction was carried out. In the second stage, the epoxidation was carried out at 75ºC for 4.5h. As results, it was possible to determine the quality parameters of the biodiesel with appropriate values such as density, kinematic viscosity and iodine value. It was concluded that the epoxidation increased the density and viscosity compared to that of the transesterified product. The final density of the epoxidation product corresponds to heavy type lubricants in relation to API gravity and kinematic viscosity measured at 40°C, which allowed it to be classified as an ISO VG 7 lubricant according to ASTM-D-242.
