Abstract

In the present paper an assessment is made on the opportunity that exists in Cuba to use deep sea water as a renewable alternative for air conditioning. It identifies the main coastal areas where the required depth can be accessed at a reasonable distance from the shore and the possible users with the greatest potential for this type of technology. Each place has its own characteristics so, as an illustration, a specific area is chosen for a case study, with the aim of evaluating the energy, economic and environmental impact that can be achieved by replacing the current conventional systems of vapor compression air conditioning. Input variables and maps are obtained from publicly available information, and rationality thresholds for a given project are identified through exergoeconomic analysis.
